In Search of Perfect Client Service Why lawyers don't seem to get it

Words of Wisdom: Project Management

Posted in Commentary

From ACC Board Chair Patricia Hatler in her March message in ACC Docket:

Expense management is still a critical focus for general counsel.  Successful leaders need to think differently, using a process-minded, value assessment and risk assessment approach.  The key is to focus on how services are delivered, which provide the most value and how to quantify the results.  Assessments must be made from both a risk management and an absolute cost perspective.  That said, the conundrum is that in-house and firm attorneys are NOT trained in process design skills.  Therefore, leaders who can learn new ways of thinking will be successful.

Amen.  But I think it important to note that the "new way" of thinking is really only new to lawyers.  The rest of the business world figured this out a while ago.
